After breakfast, drive to the Umbwe Gate (1,800m) and start hiking through the rainforest. The trail is steep and can be muddy, so be prepared for a challenging hike. You will reach the Umbwe Cave campsite (2,850m) in the late afternoon.
After breakfast, continue hiking through the forest and onto a ridge with stunning views of the surrounding area. The trail then descends into a valley and crosses a river before ascending to Barranco Camp (3,960m). This campsite offers breathtaking views of the Western Breach and the Barranco Wall. .
Today's hike is relatively short but challenging, as you will ascend the Barranco Wall, a steep and exposed scramble that requires some rock-climbing skills. After reaching the top of the wall, you will traverse a ridge and descend to the Karanga Valley (3,995m) for overnight.
Today's hike takes you to Barafu Camp (4,600m), the starting point for the summit attempt. The trail climbs steadily through alpine desert and rocky terrain. At Barafu Camp, you will have dinner and rest before the early morning summit attempt.
Today is the big day, the summit attempt. You will start the ascent around midnight, hiking slowly in the dark with headlamps. The trail is steep and challenging, with scree and rocks making the footing unstable. You will reach Stella Point (5,752m) as the sun rises, and from there, it's a relatively flat walk to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Take in the views and celebrate your achievement before descending back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and then continuing down to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for overnight.
After breakfast, you will hike down to Mweka Gate (1,640m), where you will receive your summit certificates and say goodbye to your guide and porters. Transfer back to your hotel in Moshi / Arusha for a well-deserved rest and celebration.
